Module 2 - Question 1

On page 17, Tony describes his opinion of Malcolm (also known as the outsider). What does this paragraph tell us about how Tony feels about Malcolm?
A. Tony believes Malcolm is a great guy there to help him change his life.
B. Tony is judgmental and makes his opinion of Malcolm without even knowing Malcolm as a person or his personal beliefs.
C. Tony thinks Malcolm is a prison guard dressed up as an outsider to give the inmates a break in their boring day.

AND THE CORRECT ANSWER IS ...... B

This is a common mistake people make every day in their lives. As soon as we see a person for the first time, we immediately start assuming things about this person and judging them simply by what they are wearing and how they are acting.

You can never tell who someone is just by what they are wearing. Some people buy clothes and other material items just to try and look like they have something they don’t really have. Then others, who might not look like they have much, might just have everything a person could ever want. This reminds me of a quote from actor Will Smith. He says, “Too many people spend money they don’t have, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.”

Real Life Mindset Application: When you see someone driving an expensive looking car, you are usually very excited and start assuming things about this person like, “they must be rich.” Instead of thinking those thoughts, switch your mindset to think like this, “I wonder how much he owes on that car. I wonder if she got a great deal on that car.” Those are wise questions to consider (we’ll dive more into later).

Conclusion: Don’t judge others or compare yourself to others because most of the time you don’t know who they are or why they’re doing what they’re doing. Plus, you must stick to your plan in life that you have made for yourself. If you are constantly comparing yourself to others that you believe have more than you, then your plan will constantly change and you’ll be going around in circles never attaining any of your goals. Focus on who you are, what you want and how you are going to get there.

Thought To Ponder: What impresses you the most in life…what someone has or who someone is?
